Top Ten Things to do This January

Our calendar is overflowing with activities to keep you and your family on the move, but how do you choose what to make space for? You’ve got it all here, with our monthly feature, the Little Lake County Top Ten – Ten Must-Do Events in Lake County this month. Here are our picks for Top Events for Families this January in Lake County.

Get the year started off right, celebrating your family and all that there is to do in the winter! Events are in no particular order.

  1. Lil Gelato Chef Program - January 6
    🆓 Pop into Frost in Highland Park for a free, tasty experience with gelato from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  2. Zumba for Families - January 27
    🆓 Get moving as a family for free at the Wauconda Area Library- dance your hearts out in comfy clothes. Be ready for a cross generational and bilingual hour!
  3. Lincolnshire Skate Night - January 19
    🆓 Head over to the North Park Ice Rink for skating and fun for the whole family from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Hot chocolate is provided for children. Food trucks and frozen custard will be for sale, along with beverages for adults- and it’ll top off with fireworks- in January!
  4. Winter Carnival - January 13
    🆓 Winter fun abounds from skating, to ice sculpting, family games, snowshoeing and a bonfire! Bundle up for a great day of memory making at Meadowhill Park from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

  5. Walk In Thank You Card - January 6
    🆓 Want to remind the kids to write formal thank you cards for their holiday gifts this year? Swing by the Antioch Public Library District to make a thank you card!
  6. WinterFest- - January 13
    🆓 Carriage rides, dog sledding and free skate rentals are available at Century Park in Vernon Hills. Bring the whole family for an afternoon not to be forgotten.
  7. Squirrel Appreciation Day - January 21
    Squirrels are everywhere across Lake County, learn about this cute little critter at Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods with your little scientists!
  8. Third Annual Winter Bonfire Event - January 13
    🆓 Where do all of the Christmas trees go after the holidays? In Wadsworth, they pile them up and have a big old bonfire! Enjoy sledding and fun with families from around at Wadsworth Village Hall.
  9. Rockin’ Tots - Sundays
    Does your toddler need to burn off some extra energy on Sunday mornings? Hop over to Rockin’ Jump for a toddler only jump time!
  10. Family fun with Busy Brains
    Join Little Lake County and others for a fun family play date at the end of January to support Busy Brains Children’s Museum - details coming soon. innocation
