So you hit the pumpkin patch and you picked the perfect pumpkin (or several) and then you excitedly prepped them for your kids, who promptly ran off because ewwww pumpkin guts are gross. Now it’s November 1 and your Jack-o’-lantern looks likes it’s lost it dentures or has developed a bad case of mold. Don’t just toss it in the dumpster-there is still time to make family fun out of it! Yes, really!

Smashing Pumpkins Event at Six Flags Great America, Gurnee
November 1, 11:00 a.m.
Smash those pumpkins to smithereens! When you present a pumpkin at the gates on Sunday November 1 you will receive a discount on general admission. Then take your pumpkins to Hometown Square for smashing and target contests to win prizes!

Drop it!
Annual Pumpkin Drop at Keith Mione Community Park, Mundelein
November 1, 12:30 p.m.
Bring your pumpkins (1 per person) to the Community Park Sled Hill and watch them soar, roll, and compost! Mundelein High School will have Big Red, the trebuchet/catapult to launch pumpkins. Pumpkins that aren’t launched can be rolled and smashed. Fun FREE event for the whole family.

Pumpkin Launch, Century Park Sledding Hill, Vernon Hills
November 7, 11:00 a.m.
Rolling, launching and smashing pumpkins! The Vernon Hills High School Science Department brings their trebuchet to launch pumpkins ($4 per pumpkin). There will be other pumpkin activities and prizes, too! Free to watch, $4 to launch a pumpkin.
