During the winter months when conditions are favorable, the outdoor ice rink at Heritage Park will open for FREE public skating and hockey play. The rink closes at dusk. To check ice conditions call the 24-hour hotline at 847-537-2284 or visit the Wheeling Park District website. The Green Flag on the page indicates the ice is open, a Red Flag means the ice is closed for skating. Open every day from 9am-9pm weather permitting.

Waukegan now has three (3) location for outdoor ice skating. Rink availability subject to weather conditions. For more information call 847-360-4700. Public Skating Mon-Thurs 10am-4:30 pm, Fridays 10am-7:30pm, Weekends 11am-4:30pm.

The final Family Skate Night of the season will be held at Belvidere Park on Friday, March 27th from 5-7:30 pm. A limited supply of ice skates will be available for FREE rental. Skating is free and family-friendly music and hot chocolate are available.
Fieldbrook Park, Liberty Lakes Blvd.
Beach Park, 122 Park Street {Wauconda Park District}
At Fieldbrook Park, there must be at least three (3) days with temperatures of 20 degrees or below and an extended forecast with temps of 20 degrees or below in order to begin flooding the rink. At Beach Park, no skating allowed until the ice reaches a thickness of 8″. Hockey is available at this location. Green Flag means safe to skate, Red Flag means NOT safe. The Round Lake Area Park District maintains two (2) outdoor rinks for FREE public skating and hockey play. Safety conditions are reviewed on a daily basis and indicated by a flag system (Green=Open/Red=Closed.) When open, hours are from 9am-9pm. Call 847-546-8558 for current conditions.

John Janega Memorial Park, 205 Hickory Drive {Lindenhurst Park District}
The ice must be at a specified thickness throughout the skating area to be safe. Park District staff will check skating areas on a daily basis. A flag will be flown at each skating area to show the current skating conditions. Red Flag = Unsafe Conditions/Green Flag = Safe Conditions. Weather permitting, hours are sunrise to sunset.
Paulus Park, 200 S. Rand Road {Lake Zurich Park & Recreation}
Ice skating rinks will be located on Lake Zurich at Paulus Park. . Green flags at this location indicate that the ice is available for skating and red flags indicate that the ice is unavailable. Call 847-438-5146, ex. 9 for updated skating conditions. If there is not a current update, the message you hear is the current condition. Paulus Park is lighted and will be open until 9pm
West Park, 850 Summit Avenue {Lake Forest Parks & Recreation Department}
Ice skating available at West Park with hockey allowed in designated rink. There is a warming house with ice rink guards. Artesian Park, 10 E. Sheridan Place {Lake Bluff Park District}
The skating rink at Artesian Park will be open weather permitting. The rink is lighted for evening use and equipped with a warming house facility complete with washrooms. Hockey players must confine all play to the hockey side of the rink. A sign will be placed outside the ice rink indicating the status of the rink. Sunset Woods Park, 1804 Sunset Road {Park District of Highland Park}
A large sheet of ice for open skating and one hockey rink are provided for your enjoyment. All skating is FREE, but no skate rental is available. Vending machines are available. Open 9am-9pm daily weather permitting.

The park has a large ice skating area located on the south side of the park off of Old Checker Road. Rink is lighted until 10:30 pm. NO HOCKEY allowed on the ice rink.

Deerfield Park District maintains neighborhood rinks with timed lighting for your skating enjoyment. Neighborhood rinks are located at Briarwood and Pine Street parks.Lights at the neighborhood rinks operate between 5:00 - 9:30 p.m. every night.
Lighted family ice rinks are located at Jewett Park and Jaycee Park. A hockey rink is at Jewett Park and unlighted rinks are at Pine Street and Briarwood Parks.

English Meadows {Grayslake Park District}
All ice rinks are unsupervised and have no warming houses. Skating is only allowed in designated plowed areas. A flag will be flown at all ice rinks to indicate if the ice is safe. RED FLAG means UNSAFE CONDITIONS and GREEN FLAG means SAFE CONDITIONS. Hockey is only allowed at designated areas where signs are posted. Old School Forest Preserve, Libertyville
Independence Grove Forest Preserve, Libertyville {Lake County Forest Preserves}
Lace up your skates and head to the lake at Independence Grove or the man-made rinks at Lakewood and Old School. Ice hockey is not allowed. The two man-made rinks are shallow and typically freeze earlier in the season than the lake at Independence Grove where a 4.5-inch layer is required for ice skating.
At Independence Grove, the designated skating area is open 6:30 am–sunset, daily. The Lakewood rink is part of a dedicated Winter Sports Area at that site, and is lighted, allowing for extended winter fun 6:30 am–9 pm, daily.
The Old School rink is open 6:30 am–sunset, daily.
