Break out your stain stick! Strawberry season may be over, but area farms and orchards are still offering opportunities to pick-your-own deliciousness. Summer raspberries, currants, and cherries are now available! A drive to nearby McHenry County or a hop over the border to Wisconsin, will not only yield some tasty fruit, but some great memories as well.

Grace Farm grows several varieties of raspberries which are 100% organic. The farm also produces icelandic wool, so make sure the kids stop and say “hello” to the sheep. This is a working farm, so know what to expect by reading this past review.

Southern Wisconsin U-Pick - Raspberries, Currants, Cherries

U-Pick Hours: Friday and Saturday 8am-4pm or until supplies last
Prices: $8.50 for a regular bucket (about 4 1/2 qts.) and $32 for a large bucket (about 4 1/2 gallons). You must use Harvest Time buckets for picking and then bring your own containers to bring your cherries home. Due to the severe winter, many trees were lost leaving a small crop this year. The orchard will be open this weekend only while the crop lasts. The Donut Shop will also be open so stop by for a ready-made tasty treat.
Currants, Gooseberries (limited), and Red Summer Raspberries are available.
U-Pick Hours: Generally Open between 8am and 6pm. Call ahead to confirm availability and picking conditions.
Prices: $5 per pint for raspberries and gooseberries / $4 per lb for currants
Currants may be a new fruit for your children, and picking your own is a great way to learn about them. These berries come in red, white and black varieties. The red and white currants are great for eating out of hand while black currants are best for preserves. Have fun experimenting with new recipes!
